Is Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins the luckiest guy on earth this year? First he jams with Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson on YYZ, and now he kicks out the jams with Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones at Wembley Stadium over the weekend.
Apparently set up by rock photographer Ross Halfin (read his June 7 diary entry), Hawkins and Dave Grohl are joined by Page and Jones to do Rock and Roll and Ramble On.
The Telegraph ran a story that said:
Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl told the 86,000-strong audience on Saturday that he had something special planned, saying: "Tonight this will be the show we are talking about for the next 20 years."
An emotional Grohl told the crowd after the impromptu appearance: "Welcome to the greatest day of my whole entire life."

Are the Foos the luckiest bastards alive or what? What's next? Hawkins joins The Who on Young Man Blues and The Real Me at Save The Planet Fest 2009?
6/9 addendum - as Judakris pointed out in the comments section, Grohl and Hawkins have jammed with Queen as well (I saw them on VH1 Rock Honors last year and it was pretty good). Lucky FREAKS!

Scientists have been saying it for a while, but this simply confirms Dave Grohl is indeed the Nexus of the Universe. I love the way he tries to unite all these different influences.
I was there Sat night and saw it for real.
Rock n Roll was great. Ramble On an odd choice given it's not one of the "big" Zep tracks.
My 17 year old son was over the moon to see the legend that is Zep and it took me back to an August day in 1979 when I sat in a field with 200,000 others to watch them play one of the last original Zep gigs in the UK.
However some of the younger audience around me clearly had no idea who they were, didn't know the tracks and were very non-plussed by the whole thing sitting down throughout it all.
For guitar numpties among you by the way Jimmy was using either his true original LP standard or more likely one of the recent Tom Murphy replicas. However more interestingly not the new HiWatt Jimmy Page reissue amp but what looks like Orange Thunderverbs (only got a very quick glimpse on the screens) that were covered in black. Possibly even they might have been "borrowed" from Gaz Coombs of Supergrass. In which case definitive proof again that it is all in the fingers.....
I saw the Foo at the O2 Arena in London last November and almost took the arm off of the concert buddy next to me when Brian May and Roger Taylor joined them onstage. I waffled on buying a ticket to Wembley. Now I'm kicking myself. --J
Grohl is dying to sit in as Zep's drummer if they reunite. Grohl is definitely leading the life. Did anyone see him jamming with McCartney in Liverpool recently? The videos are on Youtube. First he played guitar, then he switched to drums.
